Looking for the best things to do in Soller in Mallorca? Then you’re in the right place. I’ve been to Soller before, but it was a brief visit, so I was happy to go back on my recent trip to Mallorca and spend a couple of days in the town.
Soller is mostly known for its vintage tram dating back to 1912, which we of course made sure to take! But even besides the charming tram tooting and honking as tourists squint to each side with their flashing phone cameras, it’s a nice little town that’s well worth a visit, and a fantastic stop on any Mallorca road trip.
Read on to explore what to do in Soller, including taking the tram to Port de Soller!

Best things to do in Soller
Step inside Parroquia de Sant Bartomeu
The iconic church of San Bartolomé is easily visible when you drive into Soller, as it towers over the rooftops with Serra de Tramuntana as a backdrop.
It’s located right on the vibrant Placa de la Constitución, which is the main meeting point of Soller.
You can get tickets at the entrance, which are only a couple of Euros per person, and it’s truly worth going inside.
There are so many unique details inside, but my favorite part was the stained glass windows – both the rose window and the side windows up by the ceiling are impressive.

Stroll around the historic town center
Soller boasts a charming Old Town which is worth walking around, though, in all honesty, it’s nothing near the old towns of nearby Valdemossa, Deia, and Fornalutx.
I still think it’s worth seeing, especially for the majestic mountains surrounding Soller, which make for incredible views at the end of every street.

Take the tram to Port de Soller
The historic tram of Soller, dating back to 1912, is Soller’s most prominent tourist attraction. I was super excited to take the tram to Port de Soller on my last visit. This is the main reason people go to Soller, so I kinda just had to go for a ride.
While it’s clearly a tourist trap, I actually loved the ride and would do it again over driving down to the port.
If you’re on a budget, you can take the tram one way and take the bus or hike back, as the ticket price is quite steep.

Once you reach Port de Soller, it’s like a completely different world, with its charming little bay lined with beaches and a lively marina filled with restaurants and bars.
There are quite a few things to do in Port de Soller, so I actually recommend spending a day there, unless you’re on a day trip to Soller, then half a day will do.
In the summer, it’s nice to spend a couple of hours at the beach. I also enjoyed walking up to the viewpoint by the Museu de la Mar museum, where you can see the entire bay.

Go for a hike
Soller is nestled amidst the mesmerizing mountains of Serra de Tramuntana, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Needless to say, there are several amazing hiking routes around Soller which are perfect when you visit Mallorca during winter.
Unfortunately, I haven’t hiked there yet (I’m planning to very soon!) as it’s either been raining when I’ve visited Soller in winter, or I’ve been there in summer when it’s way too hot for hiking in the mountains.
Among the top hikes on my bucket list are Barranc de Biniaraix, Cornador Gran, and the easier Cala Tuent.

Have a drink at Placa de la Constitución
The center of attention in Soller is without a doubt Placa de la Constitución. With several restaurants and bars on the square, I highly recommend getting a table at least for a drink to soak in the energetic vibe of Soller.
It’s the same square where you find the majestic Parroquia de Sant Bartomeu and the beautiful building of Banco de Soller (which now houses Santander Bank).
Besides, the historic tram passes the square regularly, too, which makes it interesting.

Go shopping
While Soller is a fairly small town, it has surprisingly great shopping. The best shopping street is Carrera de Sa LLuna (Centro Comercial), which you can access straight from the main square, Placa de la Constitución.
There are several boutique shops and bakeries where you can find traditional Mallorcan baked goods. Just a heads up to all vegetarians, it’s very common to use pig fat in baked goods in Mallorca, so make sure you ask if it contains “manteca de cerdo” before you dig in!

Visit a museum
There are several museums in Soller that you can visit too. Soller Museum is a nice house museum set in a manor house and showcasing how the upper class lived in the 20th century. Besides, there are always temporary exhibitions.
In Port de Soller, I recommend walking up to the viewpoint to Museu de la Mar, where you can learn more about Soller’s maritime heritage.

Visit Soller Botanical Garden
Most Soller things to do lists don’t include the magnificent Botanical Garden, which is located right outside Soller town center. But it’s truly worth visiting!
It was opened to the public in 1992 and is home to mostly Balearic plant species, including several endangered species. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous with so many plants and flowers.
Besides the beautiful gardens, you can visit the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, which consists of three floors, each focusing on Geology, Paleontology, and Biodiversity.
Take a day trip
There are so many amazing day trips from Soller you can take to nearby villages if you stay there for a few days. I highly recommend visiting Valldemossa for its incredible history and rustic old town.
Among the most prominent things to do in Valldemossa are visiting the Chopin Cell, the monastery, and the Palacio del Rey Sancho.
I also suggest visiting the small towns of Fornalutx and Deia, which are super charming.
Besides, you should definitely make time for a day trip to Palma. There are many lovely things to do in Palma de Mallorca, like visiting the cathedral (make sure you climb to the rooftop for the views!), the Castell de Bellver, and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina.
Yet, one of the main reasons to visit Palma is to walk around the old town and enjoy the vibe, the food, and the drinks.
But the best thing about a Soller to Palma day trip is that you can take the historical train (not the same as the tram) that runs between the two cities.

Reflections on what to do in Soller
Summing up, there are wonderful things to do in Soller, whether you’re a history buff or an adventure junkie. It’s easy to see why this is one of the most popular of Mallorca’s many towns.
The setting of the town couldn’t be more picturesque, and even though I always prefer being at the top of a mountain (or sweating my way up there), I always enjoy sitting in Soller with a nice drink, soaking in the surroundings of its iconic church and the surrounding mountains.
I also love that Port de Soller is so close that you easily can go for a swim either by a short hike or by taking the historic tram down.
Happy travels!
